2022 Denver Broncos NFL Coaching Staff

New head coach Nathaniel Hackett replaced the old with the new, experienced with inexperienced in almost every coaching position.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — As a relatively young head coach, Nathaniel Hackett doesn’t have to worry about his assistants’ adherence.

With the exception of Zach Azzanni (receivers) and Christian Parker (defensive backs), all older, very experienced – and dare we say, more determined in their ways? – top assistants in Vic Fangio’s coaching staff have been fired.

Hackett has replaced them with untrained, enthusiastic coaches he can shape. He has a unique coaching system and style that he will instill in his assistant coaches, who in turn will coach the players, who will ultimately drive the whole operation forward.

It’s similar to what Matt LaFleur did when he became head coach of the Green Bay Packers three years ago.

Three 13, 13 and 13-win seasons later, Hackett appears to be adopting the LaFleur strategy of building personnel in Denver.

There’s a certain mix of experience in the Broncos’ new staff. Hackett adds Dom Capers as a senior defensive adviser and keeps Bill Kollar as a consultant. The average age of these two is 70 years old. Otherwise, that staff is largely filled with coaches who have more experience teaching college players than NFL athletes.

It’s so original that Hackett even brings in his former University of California-Davis neurobiology classmate, John Vieira, to serve as a trainer for trainers. Vieira held a similar role the previous two years at Green Bay.

Now, if Hackett can get quarterback Aaron Rodgers to follow him to Denver, the Broncos will be ready to face off in 2022.
