2024 3-Star S Zahir Rainer reminds Pitt coaching staff of former Paris Ford star

With the recent success Pitt has had over the past few years developing and securing defensive backs in the NFL, that fact is not lost on high school players.

Damar Hamlin, Jordan Whitehead, Dane Jackson, Avonte Maddox, Damari Mathis and Jason Pinnock are former Panther defensive backs who are currently on NFL rosters and players Archie Collins and Corey Sanders can mention when trying attract top talent to Pitt.

Last week, Pitt’s staff made an offer for a talented safety who they hope will eventually join them at ‘Defensive Back U’.

2024 three-star security Zahir Rainer has added Pitt to his ever-growing list of scholarship offers. Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up this morning with Rainer who spoke about his conversation with Pitt staff and plans for an upcoming trip to Pittsburgh.

“Coach Archie Collins and Coach Powell. Coach Powell actually coached my dad in Virginia in the 90s, and they’ve been good friends ever since,” Rainer said. was super excited. Pitt is definitely a program on the rise, especially with all the players they put into the pros, especially the big defensive backs and Kenny Pickett. Pitt is definitely an up and coming program, it’s a great program and a program I might like to be part of one day.

“When he proposed, Coach Powell told me he reminded him a lot of Paris Ford, because of the tenacity I play with. Obviously, I’m not as big as him but with the meanness, violence, the tenacity and playing ability I have, I remind him of Paris He told me about the NFL talent that Pitt has produced for a long time going all the way back to Darrelle Revis and that I would be a perfect fit in their system.

While the offer just came in last week, Rainer says he’s been hearing about the Pitt program for a while now, and it really picked up steam earlier this month.

“In the spring, Coach Powell came to my school and told me about Pitt,” Rainer said. “He told me about the culture there and what they built. He thought I would be a perfect fit for them. Since then and on September 1 at midnight, they were one of the first schools to contact me and tell me how much they love me. I’m still learning more and more about Pitt, but so far so good.

Rainer describes his style of play as fearless, fast and violent and goes on to say, “I’m not the greatest defensive back in the world, but I have a very quick twitch and I’m a playmaker. like contact and I like to put a hat on a hat.

Rainer says he’s thrilled to know where his recruiting is at and he’s super excited. He is in contact with a number of schools like Pitt, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Minnesota, South Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest.

The talented defensive back from Virginia has only one scheduled visit and that’s Pitt for Saturday night’s game against Georgia Tech.
