The Brevard College women’s soccer team has added Juan Mascaro Jr. as associate head coach and Rebeccah Rojas as volunteer assistant coach, announced head coach Juan Mascaro Sr. Mascaro Jr. and Rojas will begin their new duties immediately with the women’s soccer program.
Mascaro Jr. becomes associate head coach of the women’s soccer program, having spent the past three seasons in the same role for Brevard College’s men’s soccer program.
“Coach Mascaro Jr. brings a wealth of experience, professionalism and energy to the program,” said Head Coach Mascaro Sr. “His versatile coaching style and experience in successful soccer programs will benefit our players on and off the field and his hard work on the recruiting track will be a great asset to the future of our soccer program.
Mascaro Jr. is entering his sixth overall season as football coach at Brevard College.

I can’t wait to start serving and teaching our players.
After a successful playing career for the Tornados, Mascaro Jr. began his coaching career as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Emory & Henry College in 2016.
He then returned to Brevard College as the women’s soccer goalie coach for the 2017 season, helping the unit to the most wins (11) in the NCAA era. Under the tutelage of Mascaro Jr., the Brevard goaltender capped the season with seven shutouts, an NCAA program record, giving the BC women’s soccer program an impressive goals-against average of 1, 1.
After the 2017 campaign, Mascaro Jr. joined the men’s soccer program as an assistant. In 2019, he was elevated to Assistant Men’s Soccer Head Coach under Head Coach Helio “L” D’Anna. During his three seasons in that role, Mascaro Jr. helped guide the Tornados to three consecutive playoff appearances and the United States Southwest Division Championship in the spring of 2021.
Mascaro Jr. graduated from Brevard College with a bachelor’s degree in business and organizational leadership as well as a master’s degree in sports management from Georgia Southern University. He holds a USAF Level D Coaching License, National Goalkeeping Certification, and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Rojas joins the coaching staff after an illustrious career as a student-athlete at Brevard College.
“Rebeccah was a phenomenal player for us who now brings that recent experience combined with an eagerness to enter the coaching staff,” Mascaro Sr said. ‘coaches.’
On the Brevard College football field, Rojas ranked among the top goaltenders in the nation while breaking several school records. During her career, she amassed 34 wins and 23 shutouts, two career highs at Brevard. As a senior in 2020-21, Rojas allowed just four goals en route to a 0.44 goals-against average that ranked among the national elite. A five-time US Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year during her career, Rojas was named the All-West First Team selection for the US Southern First Team in the spring of 2021.
Off the field, Rojas served as treasurer for the Student Government Association and peer leader for freshmen. While in British Columbia, she won both the Dr. Barbara Boerner Emerging Leader Scholarship and the Sustainable Leadership Award. Academically, she earned the Dean’s List and Southern Academic Honors.
Rojas, a native of Murrieta, Calif., is graduating from Brevard College in the spring of 2021 with a degree in business and organizational leadership and a minor in pre-law. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration while working full-time in BC as a College Facilities Operations Specialist.
“I am very grateful and excited to be coaching alongside two truly influential mentors, Head Coach Juan Mascaro Sr. and Associate Head Coach Juan Mascaro Jr,” Rojas said. “I believe this team has the tenacity and dedication for success, which makes it very exciting for me to be part of it once again.”
With off-season practices beginning this spring, the Tornados head into the 2022 fall season in search of their third straight playoff spot. With the addition of new coaching members and the continued growth of the program, Head Coach Mascaro Sr. is optimistic about the future of the program.
“The program has grown and improved every year over the past five years,” concluded Mascaro Sr. “The team is moving in the right direction and we will continue to move forward. With our current roster, our recruitment and our coaching staff, the future is bright for Brevard College Women’s Soccer.
