Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel remains oblivious to rumors circulating that his future with the team has become uncertain.
The Lakers’ disappointing run this season has people speculating that Vogel will likely be fired soon.
However, following the Lakers’ stunning 117-92 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, Vogel revealed that out of necessity he had to “light a fire under his team”, implying he will now be more imposing as a coach. .
“Once in a while the coach has to light a fire under his team,” Vogel said via The Athletic. “And today (against the Kings) was one of those games.”
Vogel was referring to the fiery speech he gave against the Lakers at halftime against the Kings. Further disclosing what the coach said, Dwight Howard revealed: “His whole argument was, ‘Stop talking about wanting to win a championship and not putting in the right effort.
If recent reports are true, there have been plenty of rumors that the Lakers are now planning to make some changes to the team. And while player trades and acquisitions are certainly the top two resolutions, the Lakers would be keen to reevaluate their coaching staff. In simpler terms, the pressure is now mounting on Vogel.
As it stands, it looks like Vogel’s halftime talk against the Kings worked. The Lakers have now improved to 12-11, posting a .522 winning percentage. They now sit seventh in the Western Conference standings.
