Johnson impressed with Florida Gators coaching staff

Several Georgia State prospects were in Gainesville on Saturday to watch the Florida Gators go through spring training.

Athlete RJ Johnson (6-3, 180, McDonough, GA. Eagle’s Landing Christian School) was on campus with several of his 7-on-7 teammates on Saturday.

“I had a great visit,” Johnson said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I was very impressed with what I saw. I had the chance to see them practice and see the coaches interact with the players.

While on campus, Johnson had the chance to meet the new staff for the first time and he was impressed with what they are building in Florida.

“I had a great conversation with the coach [Billy] Napier and coach [Corey] Raymond during my visit to Florida,” he said of the coaches he spoke with. “I was very impressed with what I saw and the new culture there.”

Defensive backs coach Corey Raymond told Johnson where they see the athlete playing and how he would fit into things.

“We’ve talked a lot, they want me to play cornerback,” Johnson said in his talks with Raymond. “He talked about how I could be used in the different defensive styles they play. Also, I had the chance to see them live in training, so I saw and understood what it would be like if I went to Florida.

Johnson has watched Raymond closely during training and he believes his coaching style matches his game.

“Coach Raymond has a laid back coaching style which fits my style of play perfectly,” he said of watching Raymond in training. “I know he has coached great players that I aspire to be one day. I think the training has gone really well.

Head Coach Billy Napier also spent time with Johnson during the visit as the two continue to build their relationship.

“Coach Napier said he’s been watching me for a while,” Johnson said of Napier’s post. “He is very impressed with my film and also that he looks forward to moving our relationship forward over time.”

After the visit, Johnson says he has a great interest in the Gators and is already looking forward to returning to Gainesville.

“I have a lot of interest in Florida,” he said. “I was very impressed with what I saw and can’t wait to be back.”
