Premier League season almost underway as new Red Devils manager – Erik ten Hagcontinues to bring the club back to its glory days.
In a bid to do so, Manchester United have now signed the services of Bennie McCarthy, who will now become part of Ten Hag’s squad as the first-team striker’s coach.
McCarthy, who is a longtime Red Devils fan, is now the latest addition to United’s coaching staff and was announced via the club’s official social media account.
Manchester United announced on Twitter via a post which read:
“We welcome a new face to our coaching staff…Nice to have you on board, Bennie McCarthy”
The 44-year-old former Blackburn star is considered the greatest striker in the history of the Bafana Bafana team.
McCarthy, who has previous Premier League experience with Blackburn Rovers, has worked as a coach since retiring from the game in 2013.
The South African international, who speaks four languages, has recently worked with top clubs in his country’s top football division, including Cape Town City and Amazulu FC, and now he is set to join Ten Hag at Old Trafford.
McCarthy was named South African Premier League Coach of the Year in 2021.
A prize that would see him offered the position of the South African national team, which he would eventually refuse.
Now the 44-year-old is back in a country he knows and looks set to work with Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to bring out the best in the latter duo.
