New XFL coaching staff announced ahead of 2023 return

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) — The XFL will return to St. Louis in 2023, the league announced Sunday.

The league made the announcement at a town hall on its website Sunday evening. At City Hall was the league’s new owner, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Battlehawks play in the Dome at America’s Center during the 2020 season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other cities receiving a team are Seattle, Arlington, San Antonio, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando and Washington, DC. The season will start on February 18, 2023.

Anthony Becht has been announced as the coach of the St. Louis team. He played in the NFL from 2000 to 2011, including a season with the Rams in 2008.

“I’m thrilled to bring football back to the St. Louis community and do it alongside the best staff in the entire XFL,” Anthony Becht said. “Every member of my team is passionate, experienced and dedicated to building the best team for St. Louis. I am excited to begin.

Here are the new additions to the staff:

  • La’Roi Glover joins as defensive line coach.
  • Mark Lee joins the team as an offensive line assistant.
  • Pat Perles joins as the team’s offensive line coach.
  • Ricky Proehl is the wide receivers coach.

  • Art Valero joins as running backs coach
  • Eric Avila has been named the team’s athletic coach
  • Sean Hollister joins as video manager
