Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti doesn’t speak to reporters often. Before Tuesday afternoon, when he met with a small group of Baltimore-area media at the end of NFL owners’ meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., Bisciotti had not taken questions from reporters. on the team since February 2018. This was when Bisciotti announced that Eric DeCosta would succeed Ozzie Newsome as the team’s general manager.
When he speaks, Bisciotti has never been shy about answering questions and telling you what he’s thinking. He held court for just over an hour on Tuesday at The Breakers complex. His announcement that the organization has agreed to a three-year contract extension with head coach John Harbaugh and his comments on quarterback Lamar Jackson’s contract situation, and how Deshaun Watson’s recent deal with the Cleveland Browns could impact him, have already attracted a lot of attention. But he had plenty more to say about the state of the Ravens and their management team and other issues impacting the organization in the wide-ranging interview.
Many of his comments are worth relaying. We’ll be streaming some snippets in two installments, with Part 2 being released on Thursday. Some of his comments have been edited and condensed for clarity.
